Hualien Golf Course

Hualien Golf Course is located in Hualien City, Hualien County, making it one of the few golf courses in Taiwan situated in a city center. Its excellent accessibility makes it feel like a beautiful and tranquil forest park within the urban landscape. The course boasts a long history; its predecessor was the "Milun Golf Course," established during the Japanese colonial period. It opened in 1928 (the 17th year of the Republic of China), making it the second oldest golf course in Taiwan (only after the Old Tamsui Golf Course). Although operations were suspended during World War II due to war damage, it was renovated and expanded in 1963 (the 52nd year of the Republic of China) and has since developed into a standard eighteen-hole golf course.

Golfers can enjoy a round on this course, which combines the beauty of mountains and oceans, all while appreciating the lush fairways and gazing at the majestic Central Mountain Range in the distance. The course has a total length of 6,546 yards and a par of 72. Due to its long history, ancient towering trees line both sides of the fairways, serving as the biggest natural obstacle when hitting the ball. Among them, the most challenging is the fourth hole. Although the fairway appears wide, the large tree in the center and the bunkers on both sides significantly increase the difficulty of shot placement, testing golfers' precision and strategy.

In addition to providing an excellent golf environment, the Hualien Golf Course also preserves the historic "Hualien Harbor Golf Club" building from the Japanese colonial period. This clubhouse, nearly a century old, has been designated a county-level historic site, bearing witness to the development of sports in eastern Taiwan. For golf enthusiasts, a visit to Hualien Golf Course offers not only the challenge of an old course but also a leisurely golfing journey that combines natural beauty with rich historical heritage.
