The Navy Zuoying Golf Course is located within the naval base in Zuoying District, Kaohsiung City, covering an area of approximately 22 hectares. It is a military golf course with a strong Southeast Asian tropical flair. Established in 1962 (the 51st year of the Republic of China), it stands alongside the Nantou Zhongxing New Village Golf Course and the Taichung Ching Chuan Kang Air Force Golf Course as one of Taiwan's few golf courses built on public land. The original purpose of the course was to provide a quality sports and recreation venue for military officers, soldiers, their families, and veterans. Nowadays, after completing the relevant access procedures, it is also open to the general public, allowing them to enjoy the unique charm of this urban public course within the military base.
Stepping onto the Zuoying Golf Course, the towering coconut trees swaying in the breeze on both sides create an atmosphere reminiscent of Hawaii's tropical scenery, making one feel exceptionally relaxed. Although it is a nine-hole course, its challenges should not be underestimated. While the fairways may appear flat, the design ingeniously incorporates winding layouts and elevated greens, demanding high precision in shot placement from golfers. The most famous Hole 6, despite being a par-three short hole, is a lengthy 246 yards with a small green, making it extremely difficult even for experienced players to reach the green in one shot. Furthermore, Hole 4, known as the westernmost fairway in Taiwan, has a large pond and bunkers lurking in front of the green, adding a great deal of strategic interest.
In recent years, the Navy Zuoying Golf Course has maintained affordable fees and excellent turf quality through its "small yet beautiful, small yet refined" operating model. The course is not only a backyard for sports and fitness for Kaohsiung citizens, but its comprehensive short-game practice area and chipping area also make it an important cradle for nurturing young golf talent and promoting grassroots golf development in southern Taiwan.
