Located on the Dadu Plateau in Qingshui District, Taichung City, Ching Chuan Kang Golf Course is a course rich in history and with a unique military background. This course belongs to the Republic of China Air Force and was officially established in 1960, making it one of the oldest golf courses in central Taiwan. During the Cold War, it served as an important recreational and social venue for US forces stationed in Taiwan and ROC Air Force generals. Today, it is open to the general public and golfers to enjoy the pleasure of playing. Due to its proximity to the Ching Chuan Kang Air Base and Taichung International Airport, golfers often see various military and civilian aircraft soaring overhead while playing on the expansive fairways. Accompanied by the rumble of engines, this unique experience of playing alongside aircraft is a feature unmatched by any other golf course in Taiwan.
The course covers a wide area and boasts an international standard of 18 holes with a par of 72. The total length of the fairways is 7,070 yards, and the overall terrain presents the flat and open characteristics typical of a plateau. While the fairways may seem approachable, allowing golfers to hit their drivers with full power, they actually hold hidden challenges. The course's greatest defense and challenge come from the vigorous old pine trees that have grown on both sides for over half a century. These towering trees not only provide lush greenery and thoughtful shade for golfers but also serve as natural barriers that strictly limit the landing areas for tee shots.
In addition, Ching Chuan Kang Golf Course retains the "artillery-style double green" design, which was highly representative of early Taiwanese golf courses. The greens here have a hard grass texture, making it very difficult for the ball to stop upon landing, severely testing golfers' approach shots and chipping and putting skills. Without precise distance control and a delicate short game touch, it's easy to struggle around the greens.
